A Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) degree is an academic program which extends over 8 semesters (4 academic years). BIM consists of 40% management and 60% information technology subjects. The BIM program is designed to equip graduates with the skills and attributes required to become an efficient and effective IT professional to match up with the fast paced world of today.

IT professionals are extensively demanded all over the world. The faculty of Management of Tribhuvan University has developed the BIM program to cater to the need of theis trend.

BIM program provides the students with manifold future prospects for advance studies and rewarding employment. A BIM graduate commands a vital role in the information management of any organizations she get involved. Being a software engineer with managerial insights, she is expected to provide crucial support to all functional areas as well as for strategic management. She, in particular, is expected to play a key role in the Management Information System (MIS) function of the organiztion, which of course a BIM student is more than qualified for.

Furthermore, BIM graduates can find jobs in almost every work arena. The diversity of opportunities that exist for them include Software Engineers, Programmer/Analyst, Application Developer, Quality Assurance Expert, IT Manager, System Designers, Network Managers, Database managers and Trainers/Instructors among others. On the other hand, the graduates aspiring for advance education have significant advantages. Four years of study of the comprehensive syllabus helps them to get straight entry into the master degree program in any of the recognized universities worldwide. She has an option for an MBA program, in MIS or other areas in computer science or Computer Information Systems.

Objectives of BIM programme

  • To prepare IT professionals efficient in the use of computers and computational techniques, develop helpful information systems and solve real life problems in the organizations
  • To enhance the skills of student in understanding the latest tendency of software development and database management system and develop ability to manage the information of different organizations.
  • To impart professional training by integrating IT and management skills.
  • To help prepare foundation for post graduate level study in and outside the country.
  • To develop students’ skill in object-oriented software design methods and data management systems.

Who should study BIM?

These days the knowledge of management is not sufficient. IT has dominant role in every sector. Every sector is dominated by IT. So, if students see their future in IT along with management, then BIM is the best course to study as an undergraduate program. Also students who are not sure whether they want to study management or IT can select BIM. In that case, students can either choose IT or management as a career after completing BIM. Most of the top managerial positions require both the knowledge of IT and management. In that case, BIM can be the right choice.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for admission:

The candidates should abide by following procedure:

  • Students are required to have completed +2/equivalent level from any university or board that is recognized by Tribhuvan University.
  • Students willing to pursue BIM should at least secure second division or CGPA 1.8 at the +2/ or equivalent level.

Admission Criteria:

Written Test:

The eligible candidates should appear in CMAT entrance test (Central Management Aptitude Test) conducted by Faculty of Management. The test follows the standards of international testing system. Questions cover the areas such as verbal skill testing, quantitative technique analysis, logical examining and general knowledge and awareness testing.

Students who have got the minimum 40% marks will be called for interview. They will be selected for admission as per merit list.

BBS Introduction


Bachelor of Business of Studies (BBS) is the four year degree program conducted by Tribhuvan University, Faculty of Management. It is annual exam based program. The main objective of BBS is to develop students into dynamic managers having ability to handle responsibility in each sector. The course was designed by considering the fact the graduates will have to live in every challenging and competitive environment then onwards. Therefore, through this course the students will have an opportunity to understand the knowledge of practical and reality based skills required to organize and manage the organization of any form. The program will have specialization in General Management, Marketing Management, Finance Accountancy and Management science.

Objectives of BBS programme

The specific objectives of BBS program are as follows:
  • Endow students the conjectural knowledge of business and administration to develop the broad management perspective in students.
  • Develop students into competent and responsible managers by providing them the required skills, abilities and necessary attitude.
  • Make students the catalyst of change in Nepalese society by motivating them to explore their entrepreneur capabilities.
  • Create a necessary and passionate environment for higher studies so the students involve themselves in teaching, research, consultancy etc then after.

Admission Requirements

The candidate applying for admission to the BBS program:
  • Students willing to apply for BBS program must have successfully completed the plus two (10+2) in business/ commerce or an equivalent course from a HSEB(Higher Secondary School Board) or from Tribhuvan University (TU) of from other University by TU.
  • Students from other faculty like science and Arts, in other to joint BBS must have studied mathematics or economics as a full paper at the intermediate level (10+2) program.
  • Student must have studied full paper of English at the plus two level or equivalent program.
  • As prescribed by the faculty Board or Campus concerned, student must have secured the minimum marks at their intermediate level. Generally, there are no such tough criteria for getting enrolled in BBS program especially in Government Colleges.
  • Students should fulfill all criteria as required by the entry college.
  • Some college even take entrance exam and the students are chosen according to merit basis.

Minimum General Requirements

The minimum requirements for BBS 4 years are as follows:
  • Excluding days taken for admission and examination, an academic year consists of 150 teaching days.
  • The total instructional hours in an academic year will be 615 hrs and additional hours may be required for field and practical works.
  • A paper of 100 marks will have 150 lectures each of 50 minutes.
  • There will be a minimum of 5 periods in each teaching day.

Scope & Career Prospects

The BBS program has been converted into four years program from three years program. Because of this, it has become the choice of students who want to pursue management comparatively in cheaper rates. The academic cost of BBS compared to other management course is less. However, when it comes job and career, BBS program has a much possibilities and scope as compared to other subjects in management. From banking to corporate house, factories to account, everywhere there is a need of BBS graduates. They can work in sales and marketing. Since, it has become four years; it has now become easy for students to go abroad for further study. Not only are this, teaching and training also good fields for BBS graduates. Moreever, it becomes complementary for graduates to get enrolled in higher studies through BBS.

Since 1996 TribhuvanUnviersity (TU) has been implementing three-year Bachelor programmes with annual examination system in Faculties of Education, Management and Humanities and Social Sciences and Institute of Science and Technology. Recently, duration of Bachelor programmes in those faculties and institute has been made four years by adding one more year. In conformity with this, Faculty of Education (FoE) is going to introduce four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with two specialization subject areas (specialization major and specialization minor subject) in 2072 BS instead of offering single specialization area like in three-year B.Ed.

Accordingly, students of four-year BEd.programme will have to study one subject area as specialization major and the next as specialization minor area selecting from among Nepali Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education (physical science), Health and Physical Education, Population Education, History Education, Geography Education, Economics Education, and Political Science Education. Students may also study one of the courses from among Science Education (Biological Science), Health Education, Physical Education, vocational education, Primary Education, Early Childhood Development Education, Non-formal Education and Education Management as specialization minor.

Four-year B.Ed. with annual examination system is a professional as well as academic programme designed for preparing competent teachers who can teach two subjects at secondary level.

Eligibility

Students who have completed 10+2 or equivalent examinations securing minimum ‘D+’ grade in all subjects of Grade 11 and 12 are eligible to enroll in B.Ed program of Tribhuvan University.

Or

Students with Higher Secondary Education Examination Pass Certificate (HSEEPC, hereafter only HSE) or Proficiency Certificate Level of Tribhuvan University (PCL) or equivalent to HSE/grade 12 pass are eligible for the admission in B.Edprogramme. In addition, they need other requirements for the admission in different major subject specialization areas which are as follows:

  1. Nepali Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Nepali major with at least 200 marks
  2. English Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with English or Linguistics major
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with 50% marks in General English Or
    • Candidates with HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL must secure 50% marks in the Entrance Examination conducted by the respective department of the campuses
  3. Mathematics Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Mathematics Major containing at least 200 marks
  4. Science Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects with at least 100 full marks in each subject
  5. Health & Physical Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Health & Physical Education or
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Science or Population or Home Science or Nursing and any other subjects.
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL without health and physical education background must pass the physical fitness related entrance test conducted by the respective department of the campuses.
    • The candidate without physical disability will be eligible to study health and physical education.
  6. Population Education
    • HSE / Grade 12 pass or PCL with Population Studies or Geography or Economics or Health and Physical Education or Community Health or Science or Mathematics or Home Science or Civics or Social Service or Nursing or Commerce.
  7. Geography Education, Economics Education, Political Science Education and History Education, HSE / grade 12 passed or PCL or its equivalent from any Faculty

Eligibility for selecting minor subject

Except science education minor (Biology), minor subjects areas are opened for all students irrespective of their previous study areas in Grade 11 and 12 or PCL. Only those students who are majoring physical science can select biology minor. Students are required to select minor subject areas that should be different from their major subject areas.

Curricular structure

Each student must pass 22 courses to earn Four-Year B.Ed.. These courses are divided into four major groups ˗ group ‘A’ with Communication Skills; group ‘B’ with Professional Cores Areas; group ‘C’ with Specialization Major Courses and group ‘D’ with Specialization Minor Courses. Group ‘E’ includes Teaching Practice/Practicum.

BA Introduction

Tribhuvan University has launched four-year bachelor’s course in BA from the academic year 2076/077 under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

It is the inter-disciplinary subjects where students can study Compulsory English, Anthropology, Geography, History Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Nepal Bhasa, Culture, Rural Development, Social Work, Film Studies, Hindi, Nepali Linguistics and Population Studies within the same stream.

The four-year course is of 2,000 marks (500 marks each year) and students can choose two subjects of 700 marks each as their majors and two subjects of 100 marks each as elective subjects.

There will be three compulsory subjects — English, Nepali and Nepal Studies. English will be of 200 marks, Nepali 100 marks and Nepal Studies 100 marks. English has been made compulsory in the first and third years, while Nepali will be compulsory in the second year.

The students will be evaluated on the basis of written examinations of 70 marks, while 30 marks will be for internal assessment, including mini project, classroom presentation and teamwork for each subject.

Eligibility

  • Students should have secured at least D+ in all subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12 OR must have completed the intermediate, Proficiency Certificate or 10+2 level, in Humanities or Science or Management Stream from Tribhuvan University or from any other University or Board recognized by Tribhuvan University.
  • Students desirous of studying Major English/Economics in the BA Program may do so, but are required to pass the Major English Subject within three years at +2 or PCL recognized by TU if they have not already studied this course at +2 or PCL Level
  • Students who have studied any other subject at +2 or PCL level can apply for admission to Major subjects like Rural Development, Social Work and Sociology in the BA Program.
  • Students desirous of studying Journalism and Mass Communication as a Major subject in BA program must have studied Journalism/Mass Communication at +2 or PCL can apply for Journalism subject.
