BIM Introduction
A Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) degree is an academic program which extends over 8 semesters (4 academic years). BIM consists of 40% management and 60% information technology subjects. The BIM program is designed to equip graduates with the skills and attributes required to become an efficient and effective IT professional to match up with the fast paced world of today.
IT professionals are extensively demanded all over the world. The faculty of Management of Tribhuvan University has developed the BIM program to cater to the need of theis trend.
BIM program provides the students with manifold future prospects for advance studies and rewarding employment. A BIM graduate commands a vital role in the information management of any organizations she get involved. Being a software engineer with managerial insights, she is expected to provide crucial support to all functional areas as well as for strategic management. She, in particular, is expected to play a key role in the Management Information System (MIS) function of the organiztion, which of course a BIM student is more than qualified for.
Furthermore, BIM graduates can find jobs in almost every work arena. The diversity of opportunities that exist for them include Software Engineers, Programmer/Analyst, Application Developer, Quality Assurance Expert, IT Manager, System Designers, Network Managers, Database managers and Trainers/Instructors among others. On the other hand, the graduates aspiring for advance education have significant advantages. Four years of study of the comprehensive syllabus helps them to get straight entry into the master degree program in any of the recognized universities worldwide. She has an option for an MBA program, in MIS or other areas in computer science or Computer Information Systems.
Objectives of BIM programme
- To prepare IT professionals efficient in the use of computers and computational techniques, develop helpful information systems and solve real life problems in the organizations
- To enhance the skills of student in understanding the latest tendency of software development and database management system and develop ability to manage the information of different organizations.
- To impart professional training by integrating IT and management skills.
- To help prepare foundation for post graduate level study in and outside the country.
- To develop students' skill in object-oriented software design methods and data management systems.
Who should study BIM?
These days the knowledge of management is not sufficient. IT has dominant role in every sector. Every sector is dominated by IT. So, if students see their future in IT along with management, then BIM is the best course to study as an undergraduate program. Also students who are not sure whether they want to study management or IT can select BIM. In that case, students can either choose IT or management as a career after completing BIM. Most of the top managerial positions require both the knowledge of IT and management. In that case, BIM can be the right choice.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for admission:
The candidates should abide by following procedure:
- Students are required to have completed +2/equivalent level from any university or board that is recognized by Tribhuvan University.
- Students willing to pursue BIM should at least secure second division or CGPA 1.8 at the +2/ or equivalent level.
Admission Criteria:
Written Test:
The eligible candidates should appear in CMAT entrance test (Central Management Aptitude Test) conducted by Faculty of Management. The test follows the standards of international testing system. Questions cover the areas such as verbal skill testing, quantitative technique analysis, logical examining and general knowledge and awareness testing.
Students who have got the minimum 40% marks will be called for interview. They will be selected for admission as per merit list.
